Dreamscapes is an immersive art project that transforms the fleeting language of dreams into images, reflections, and shared encounters. It invites participants to step into a three-part journey: recalling a dream through guided meditation, watching it unfold as a real-time visualisation, and receiving a symbolic interpretation to take away.
Every night, we spend nearly a third of our lives in sleep. In that time, our minds create vast, unpredictable landscapes – worlds of memory, fear, desire, and imagination. Most of these visions dissolve with the morning light. Dreamscapes offers a way to catch them, to give them form, and to reflect on what they might mean.
The Journey
1. The Meditation Chamber – Arrive, Recall, Prepare

The experience begins in a softly lit chamber, designed to slow the pace of thought and create the conditions for memory. Gentle soundscapes, ambient light, and a short guided meditation help participants relax and focus. They are invited to recall either their most recent dream or one that has recurred over time.
The meditation encourages attention to detail: places, colours, characters, textures, emotions. These small cues help unlock the richness of recollection. Participants can choose to write their dream on paper, or simply hold it in mind.
The chamber is not about spectacle, but about attention: creating a calm, intimate space where memory feels safe to surface.
2. AI Dream Visualisation – Speak, Transform, See
When ready, participants step into the next chamber and give their dream a voice. They choose between two tactile objects:
- a telephone handset that recalls private conversations and confessions, placed in the larger shared space, or
- a glowing brain-shaped device, designed for smaller, more intimate settings.
As the dream is spoken, our custom-built system listens. A speech-to-text engine transcribes the words in real time, handling the strange, poetic turns of dream language with precision. These words are then passed into an independent, open-source visualisation engine based on Stable Diffusion.
This pipeline has been designed specifically for Dreamscapes. Unlike commercial “black box” AI systems, it is open, transparent, and created in-house. By connecting a transcription system with a generative model through a framework we control, we ensure both privacy and artistic integrity. Participants’ words are not sent to remote servers; they remain within the artwork itself, transformed immediately into images.
The system generates multiple variations from the dream narration – sometimes using the whole text, sometimes breaking it into fragments. From this constellation of possibilities, one image is chosen as the most resonant.

The visualisation can then be displayed in two different ways:
- Large projection, filling the chamber and allowing the dream to be shared collectively, or
- Private screen, for participants who prefer a more personal encounter.

This stage is about translation: giving ephemeral language a tangible shape, turning memory into vision.
3. FRUNG – Reflect, Interpret, Carry Away
The final stage introduces FRUNG, a chatbot designed to interpret the dream through the combined lenses of Freud and Jung. It analyses the dream symbols and metaphors, weaving them into a unique hybrid interpretation. The name “FRUNG” itself comes from this fusion — a meeting of two great traditions of dream analysis, reimagined for the present.

FRUNG creates a short printed text that distils the dream’s symbolism into words. This keepsake becomes a souvenir of the subconscious – a fragment of inner life translated into an external form. It encourages participants to continue reflecting on their dream after leaving the chamber, to carry the conversation with their subconscious into waking life.
Artistic Vision
Dreamscapes is not simply about technology; it is about creating a ritual of attention. The three stages – meditation, visualisation, reflection – form a loop that honours the participant’s inner world.
It is a reminder that dreams are not meaningless scraps, but part of the fabric of our mental and emotional lives. By making them visible and interpretable, Dreamscapes gives participants a new way to engage with their subconscious – not as something hidden, but as something to be acknowledged, explored, and valued.
Current Stage
Dreamscapes has reached the stage of a functioning prototype. The pipeline – from speech input to transcription, from transcription to image, from image to symbolic reflection – is fully operational. It has been tested internally and refined through consultation with specialists in art, psychology, research, and design.
The physical installation has been mapped out: the meditation chamber with guided audio and lighting design; the dual dream chambers (public and private) with projection and tactile devices; and the FRUNG station with on-demand printing.
This landing page marks the transition from prototype to public readiness. With support, Dreamscapes will move into structured small-audience trials, refining accessibility and deepening the immersive atmosphere.
The Team
Dreamscapes is supported by a team of experts across multiple fields:
- Artistic performance and design – shaping the meditation chamber and audience flow.
- Academic research – evaluating engagement and immersion.
- Dreamwork and psychotherapy – advising on symbolic interpretation and care.
- Business strategy and production – ensuring sustainability and reach.
This cross-disciplinary collaboration ensures Dreamscapes is not only technically feasible, but conceptually rigorous, emotionally sensitive, and publicly accessible.
Future Directions
Dreamscapes is a living project. Future developments include:
- Immersive staging – expanding light and sound design to heighten atmosphere.
- Audience trials – gathering feedback to refine timing, comfort, and accessibility.
- Expanded formats – developing short moving sequences, cinematic layers, and interactive elements.
- Touring potential – adapting the installation for galleries, festivals, and cultural venues.
The vision is to grow Dreamscapes into a cinema of the subconscious: a cultural experience that allows people to encounter their dreams not just as memories, but as environments to be shared and explored.
Why It Matters
Dreamscapes is an invitation to engage with the part of life we too often forget: the one third of our existence spent in sleep. By turning dreams into images and reflections, it gives participants a chance to recognise the emotional patterns that shape their nights – and perhaps, by extension, their days.
This is not entertainment alone. It is a way of reconnecting with the subconscious, of listening to what our inner worlds are trying to say. In doing so, Dreamscapes becomes more than an installation: it is a mirror held up to the self, revealing what lies beneath the surface of waking life.
